Blowing Shankh represents the Om sound. It is believed that when the world was being made, Lord Brahma had to find a method of communication for the inhabitants. He devised a method of communication using sound. For this, he had to create multiple sounds and add meaning to each one of them.

He went to Lord Vishnu and asked for his help. Lord Vishnu picked up his Blowing Shankh and blew in it. The voice that emerged out was Om and Lord Brahma captured this sound to create multiple versions of this and develop on this sound. Vishnu Shankh, therefore, is the producer of something new, novel and unconventional on the planet.
